Background Information
This structural engineering project involved the conversion of an existing loft space into additional habitable accommodation at a residential property on Ridgeview Road, London, N20. The project was undertaken for a private client and required structural engineering design to safely adapt the existing roof structure and introduce a new floor system.
Project Details
The proposed loft conversion required an assessment of the existing roof and supporting structure to determine how the new habitable space could be accommodated safely. The structural design considered the additional loads associated with the new floor, roof alterations, internal finishes and proposed use of the converted space.
Our role as structural engineers in North London was to provide structural calculations, structural drawings and detailed structural design for the loft conversion. The design was developed to ensure that new loads were safely transferred to suitable existing load-bearing elements without compromising the stability of the property.
Particular attention was given to the available structural zones within the loft and to providing practical steelwork and timber strengthening solutions that could be efficiently incorporated during construction.
